Who This Is For

Built for licensed clinicians who have completed EMDR Basic Training.

This training is designed for licensed mental health professionals who want to deepen their clinical work with developmental trauma.

  • Recognize how adolescent trauma shapes adult emotional and relational patterns
  • Strengthen EMDR case conceptualization through a developmental lens
  • Apply practical interventions that support regulation, integration, and adaptive processing
Prerequisite required: This training is not designed for clinicians who have not completed EMDR Basic Training.
Course Overview

Understand how adolescent trauma shapes adult emotional patterns — and how to address it within EMDR therapy.

Adolescence is a critical stage for identity formation, emotional regulation, and relational development. When trauma occurs during this period, it can shape long-term patterns of distress that continue into adulthood.

Grounded in the Adaptive Information Processing (AIP) model, this training introduces the Trauma Tree metaphor as a way to conceptualize how developmental trauma influences beliefs, emotions, and behavior. Through lecture, clinical examples, and guided practice, clinicians will gain a clearer framework for recognizing and addressing adolescent trauma within EMDR therapy.

EMDR & Beyond is an EMDRIA-approved continuing education provider (Provider #15007).

Learning Outcomes

What You'll Learn

This training equips clinicians with developmentally informed EMDR strategies for recognizing and addressing trauma rooted in adolescence.

Neurodevelopment Identify how adolescent brain development shapes trauma responses and emotional regulation
AIP Application Conceptualize adolescent trauma through the Adaptive Information Processing (AIP) model
Cognition Mapping Recognize negative cognitions connected to developmental wounds
Trauma Tree Framework Use the Trauma Tree to map irrational beliefs and behavioral patterns
Resourcing Strategies Apply resourcing strategies that support regulation and adaptive neural integration
Clinical Application

Use What You Learn Immediately

This training moves beyond theory into practical clinical integration. You will leave with developmentally informed tools you can apply when adolescent trauma emerges in EMDR sessions.

The Shift in Your Clinical Work

From surface symptoms to developmental roots.

When adolescent trauma is accurately recognized and addressed, clinicians can move beyond surface-level symptom treatment and work with the deeper developmental roots of distress.

  • Recognize adolescent trauma patterns within adult presentations
  • Conceptualize developmental wounds through an EMDR framework
  • Identify negative cognitions connected to adolescent experiences
  • Support regulation and integration when working with developmental trauma
  • Approach complex trauma cases with greater confidence and attunement

This is not simply about revisiting the past. It is a structured way of understanding how developmental trauma continues shaping the present — and responding with informed, compassionate clinical care.

Dr. Lauren Ogren is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist based in Northern California who specializes in adolescent trauma and developmental experiences that shape adult emotional patterns. Her clinical work focuses on helping clients process trauma that emerges during adolescence — a developmental period that often influences identity, relationships, and emotional regulation well into adulthood.

Dr. Ogren earned her Master's Degree in Counseling Psychology (concentration in Marriage and Family Therapy) from the University of San Francisco, and her Doctorate in Human and Organizational Psychology from Touro University. She integrates EMDR therapy and evidence-based approaches to help clinicians recognize and address the deeper roots of traumatic experience.
