The Clinical Problem

The Unique Trauma Impacts of Service Work

First responders, military members and veterans face mental health challenges specific to their work, including trauma, moral injury, and the impact of that trauma on family dynamics. This training builds on the EMDR you already use and applies it to these populations, with resourcing that draws on resilience and tactical language.

Who This Training Is For

For EMDR-Trained Clinicians Working With First Responders, Military and Veterans

This program is intended for doctorate-level and master-level psychologists, LMFTs, LMHCs, LPCs, LISWs, LMSWs and other master-level mental health practitioners who have successfully completed an EMDR Basic Training.

This is an advanced specialty training that builds on the standard protocol learned in EMDR Basic Training. If you have not yet completed Basic Training, start with EMDR Basic Training.

Course Overview

EMDR for First Responders, Military, Veterans and Their Loved Ones

This specialty training (8.5 EMDRIA Credits) explores the application of advanced Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) techniques tailored to the unique needs of first responders and military veterans, with a focus on fostering resilience and utilizing tactical language relevant to these populations. Participants will learn to address the specific mental health challenges faced by these groups, including trauma, moral injury, and the impact on family dynamics, as informed by the latest research (Arjmand et al., 2024; Atuel & Castro, 2018). The course integrates evidence-based practices, including the low-intensity flash technique and the flashforward procedure, to enhance trauma-informed care (Bonyadi et al., 2023; Logie & Jongh, 2014).

Participants will also gain competencies in conducting tailored assessments and critically evaluating the specialized treatment approaches necessary for these populations (Lewis-Schroeder et al., 2018). Strategies to build resilience and support psychological well-being will be emphasized, providing tools to improve outcomes for first responders and military personnel while considering the broader impact on their families (Lowery & Cassidy, 2022). This workshop combines practical demonstrations and interactive learning to advance clinical skills in addressing the critical and complex needs of these at-risk groups.
