Course Overview

Integrating EMDR Into Grief-Related Counseling

This intermediate online specialty training integrates EMDR into grief-related counseling in each phase of EMDR therapy. Krista Helman, an EMDRIA Approved Consultant with expertise in grief and loss, guides you through EMDR-related history-taking and treatment-planning considerations specific to clients facing grief-related challenges.

Krista shares resources and client examples to illustrate the application of EMDR to various client presentations, including the loss of a pet and complicated grief. The training covers resourcing and psychological first aid, assessing readiness for EMDR, After-Death Communication (ADC), and three approaches to processing: the Standard Protocol, EMDR-PRECI and EMDR-IADC. You leave with resources you can use right away in EMDR work with clients working to resolve grief from loss.

This training draws on a variety of trainings and EMDR protocols and provides a condensed introduction to EMDR for grief and loss. Additional training and supervision are recommended for clinicians seeking deeper proficiency in using EMDR for grief therapy. Client information in the examples has been disguised to protect confidentiality.
